The World

A War Older Than Memory

Before the story begins, there was a war in the heavens. What fell to earth was not simply evil — it was a bloodline. The Angelica, descended from winged celestial beings, have survived for millennia in the shadows of human civilization. They are not vampires. They are not demons. They are something older.

Melonnie: The Dark Side of Truth opens on a rooftop at night, with a dying man and a woman who is not what she appears to be. From there, the story unfolds across three layers — the present hunt, the court of the ancient tyrant Vigore, and the celestial origin dreams that reveal how everything began.

The Inner Circle

M

Melonnie Rumani

Protagonist & Pack Leader

An Angelica — a supernatural race descended from winged celestial beings. French-speaking. Shape-shifts between creature and human form. Deeply philosophical, emotionally complex, carrying grief over the loss of Jacques. Mother of Nichole. Narrator of the Prologue rooftop monologue, though this is revealed gradually.

Mi

Miguele

Companion & Love Interest

Melonnie's closest companion. Male, strong French/European accent. Deeply loyal and tender. Wounded during the Red Wolves ambush — throat slashed by a crossbow bolt. Can become partially invisible.

E

Erasmus

The Inviso-Man

Sardonic, theatrical, comedic. Does not appear in mirrors. Former soldier in Vigor's army who defected. He is the one who kills the young male human survivor in the car. The pack's dark conscience with a sharp tongue.

J

Jacques

The Beloved · Deceased

The fourth member of the original pack who dies before the story begins. Melonnie's beloved. He sacrificed himself so the others could live. She mourns him throughout — his absence is the wound that shapes everything.

The Living

P

Patrick

The Dying Man

The man on the rooftop in the Prologue. An agent or operative — "same cause" as Melonnie suggests shared allegiance. He lives through the night as she tells him the history of the Angelica. She kills him at dawn.

K

Katia

The Fearless Girl

Young human girl taken in by the pack after the car ambush. Fearless, sharp, funny. She becomes the emotional heart of the journey — sparring verbally with Erasmus and Miguele, and bonding with Melonnie.

FM

Father Markus

Keeper of Secrets

A Priest referenced in Melonnie's rooftop monologue. The keeper of secrets about Melonnie's identity and origin. Appears more centrally in Nichole as "Papa Bear."

CAR

The Car Family

The Ambush Victims

The father — killed by Melonnie. The mother — killed by Miguele. The son — survives initially, attempts to escape, killed by Erasmus. The daughter — survives, knocked unconscious. Her fate intertwines with Katia's origin.

"Pray? ... So be it!"

The Antagonists

V

Vigore

The Tyrant

The primary villain. Ancient, powerful, calculating. Commands the Black Coats and Red Wolves. Seeks domination and war. Appears in his castle, monologuing to Zethia and receiving intelligence from Servanté. Has psychic operatives in his court.

Z

Zethia

Lieutenant & Devotee

Vigore's young female companion. Loyal, bloodthirsty, deeply devoted to the point of emotion. Wears black leather, muscular and cool to the touch. Sits at Vigore's feet like a devoted soldier. Willing to kill on command — offers to bring enemies' heads as trophies.

S

Servanté

Intelligence Operative

Vigore's male aide. Wears a long black coat with red lining. Reports on the Naturals' location, dispatches the Black Coats and Red Wolves, and takes the liberty of detaining Vigore's advisor for execution.

Y

Yalta

The Executioner

Assigned to behead the Advisor. Engages in a drawn-out, darkly comedic philosophical exchange with his prisoner before completing the execution. A performer as much as a killer.

The Psychics

Telepathic Operatives

A pale, blue-skinned male with solid black eyes hidden behind pale blue eyelids. Communicates telepathically. A second female psychic is present at the execution, also pale blue-skinned — she receives the order and transmits it to Yalta.

The Advisor

The Traitor

Unnamed prisoner strapped to the execution table. Believes in God, pleads for his life, beheaded by Yalta. His crime — a betrayal of Vigore, or sympathy with the Naturals.

Enemy Forces

The Black Coats & Red Wolves

The Black Coats — Vigore's military operatives. They attack Melonnie's vehicle during the road ambush with crossbows and melee tactics. Silent, disciplined, and lethal.

The Red Wolves — A distinct enemy faction, also pursuing the Naturals. Named by Erasmus during the car chase attack. Whether they serve Vigore directly or operate under a separate agenda remains unclear.

Origin Dreamscape
Celestial & Mythological

Before the Beginning

A

Angelica

The Mother · Progenitor

The founding Angelica figure in the origin dreams. She survives the celestial war, speaks with Gabrielle, mourns her dead, and is told she is the "mother of Melonnie." She is the progenitor of the entire Angelica bloodline.

G

Gabrielle

Wounded Angel

A wounded Angel — not Luciferian — encountered in the cave after the celestial battle. Speaks with Angelica, tells her to drink the blood rain on the sixth day. Compassionate, wounded, and godly in nature.

L

The Luciferian Angel

The Fallen

Present in the dream/origin sequence. Taunts the Angelica during the celestial battle. Represents fallen angelic forces aligned with Lucifer. Grants the Angelica pain and knowledge, and attempts to recruit her.

Two God's Angels

Ambiguous Presence

Appear in the dream sequence fighting the Luciferian Angels. They approach the Angelica with swords — their intent ambiguous. Warriors of light whose allegiance is clear but whose mercy is not.
