The Premise

Most people try to fix what they don’t understand. They react to the surface — the emotion, the symptom, the trigger — and wonder why nothing changes. Rule 1 starts in a different place: before you move, understand. Before you speak, listen. Before you judge, observe.

This isn’t passive. It’s the most active thing you can do. Understanding requires you to set aside what you think you know and engage with what’s actually in front of you. The ego resists this — because understanding threatens its position.
